EXPERIENCED magistrate Dianne Scaddan has officially taken over court duties in Albany, with presiding magistrate Raelene Johnston transferring to Perth after working in the port city for four years.
Ms Scaddan, who started her new position last week, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent three years as a Magistrate in Bunbury and five-and-a-half years in Perth.
Magistrates are appointed to regional courts for a maximum of five years.
“Some magistrates preside for several years before moving to another regional court or to the Central Law Courts,” a Magistrates Court Spokesperson said.
“Generally, all magistrates preside at a regional or suburban court at some stage during their time at the bench to accommodate the needs of the court and provide varied experience around the State for judicial officers.”
Ms Scaddan was appointed as a magistrate in June 2012 prior to working as Counsel for WA Police.
She has also worked as a lawyer in London and Sydney.
