THE sod has been tuned on MSWA’s seven-million-dollar multi-purpose facility for people living with neurological conditions in Albany.
MSWA has begun the construction of the new facility located in Spencer Park, which will see a High Support Accommodation Facility in the form of residential units alongside a Services Centre.
The facility will replace the exiting MSWA Albany centre, which has been operating for the past 20 years.
MSWA CEO Marcus Stafford said the new facility will be able to fully support and cater to the needs of Albany residents living with a neurological disease.
“This is a really exciting day, we are just kicking off the formal launch of our two new facilities here in Albany, one which is for 365 day a year high support accommodation for folk at the upper end of neurological disabilities,” he said.
“The second one is a service facility which will provide services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, counselling and the list goes on.
“MSWA is very much so a one-stop-shop, we have the high support accommodation, the allied health services, we have in-home care services we are also the country’s largest funder of neurological research.”
The facility is being fundraised through MSWA’s efforts, supported through their fundraising community.
Mayor of Albany Dennis Wellington said the new facility was a great testament to the efforts of MSWA and the community who have fundraised generously.
“This is a fantastic project for Albany that will provide continuous exemplary services in a state-of-the-art facility allowing the hardworking team of health professionals at MSWA to continue to give back to the Great Southern,” he said.
Mr Stafford said they are building the facility with a 10-to-20-year vision in mind with an expectation the population will grow.
“We needed a block of land that was big enough to satisfy what we were looking for; we actually see this particular part of Albany as pretty good growth area over the next 10 years.
“We expect people who are accessing the high support accommodation to be able to go out to the local shops and enjoy their own social life.”
It is expected MSWA’s high support accommodation and services centre will be completed in early 2022.
