GOVERNMENT mandates have made connecting with community harder than ever, but Denmark businesses and individuals have worked in collaboration to encourage safe social interactions.
A program of online activities available since Monday has been developed in partnership with the Shire of Denmark to keep the community connected during COVID-19 restrictions.
The classes are available to all ages and cover a wide range of activities such as karate, yoga, knitting, hairstyling, community choir and live music sundowners.
The sessions aim to maintain social connections while respecting social distancing, and hope to encourage people to try something new, reduce feelings of isolation and promoting health and wellbeing.
Head of Pandemic Response Team Angela Simpson said preserving a sense of community is important at a time like this.
The Shire initiative also helps support local businesses and artists who may have lost work due to the virus by providing an opportunity to connect with their customers during the current restrictions.
A computer with video and audio capabilities or a mobile phone or tablet is required to access the free activities.
The Denmark Community Resource Centre is available on 9848 2842 to help people get set up online and get started on Zoom.
The program will run for three weeks and community members, businesses or groups wanting to contribute to the program should contact Community Development Officer Claudia Simpson via email [email protected]
The full program is available via the Shire website, Facebook page and the civic centre noticeboard.
