GREAT Southern artists have the opportunity to apply for project grants up to $30,000 as part of Regional Arts Western Australia’s bid to support creativity in remote communities.
Regional Arts WA’s Investment Coordinator Amber Launay said Great Southern artists have been high achievers in their programs in previous years.
“Regional artists can apply for up to $15,000 and organisations can apply for up to $30,000 to create high-quality arts projects that develop partnerships and networks, broaden community engagement, provide professional development opportunities and increase employment for regionally based creatives,” she said.
“There have been a number of excellent projects in the Great Southern which were supported through this grant in the last year.
“[These include] Breaksea Incorporated who presented their multi-artform community workshop series View from the Magpies Nest, dance artist Rita Bush for the development and presentation of her contemporary dance work Retrieve Your Jeans and the Albany Choral Society for the development of community opera La Traviata presented in partnership with the Albany Entertainment Centre.”
Artists are encouraged to apply on Regional Arts WA’s website.
Ms Launay said as well as grants, young regional artists aged 12-26 can apply for support for their projects.
“Last year, Great Southern-based youth artists Jasmine Reeves and Sam Reeves received $4,000 for the creative development of their project Edgy Thoughts Phase 1 which was through youth perform- ing arts organisation Southern Edge Arts,” she said.
